In Memory of Marc Schmitz
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marc Schmitz, Co-Founder of LAM and its Artistic Director, on September 17, 2023. He departed from us far too soon. According to his Buddhist beliefs, he has now entered another realm.
His passing leaves a painful void in the world of art and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him: his family, his (artist)-friends. However, his works and the diverse memories of his contributions, ideas, and art will continue to live on, reminding us of the importance of pushing the boundaries not only of art but, above all, of our thinking.
Marc was not only an extraordinary artist but also a warm-hearted individual who gladly shared his passion and knowledge with others. His positive energy, enthusiasm, and tireless dedication to the Land Art Mongolia Biennial will be dearly missed. The Biennial, though, will continue to exist!

NOMADIC DEMOCRACY
Nomadic Democracy ?
ULAANBAATAR PUBLIC ART WEEK - 27 Sept – 3 Oct - 2019
Nomadic Democracy ? concept by Maurizio Bortolotti
Migration is one of the major worldwide issues today, which challenges the economical capitalistic strategies and generates a critical point for the Western model of democracy. Looking at this issue from the point of view of the global economy, it seems to incite a reinstallation of borders, especially in and around Europe and the United States. Migration has taken a negative meaning because it is seen as a phenomenon that produces a lot of economic and social instability. Ideally, due to migration we have to re-negotiate our view of democracy and its influence on our lives. While looking at it from a central Asian perspective, Mongolia can offer a different model to deal with this issue. -
