Land Art Mongolia Residencies open 2017
We seek applications from emerging and mid-career artists, for whom appointments as resident artists may make a significant difference to their careers. Experience in environmental art is requested. The Residency Program is designed as a retreat experience to pursue personal creative work and share in collegial interaction within a small community of Mongolian and international artists.
We encourage artists to spend a period of time in a special off-grid environment. It will allow the artist to the necessary time to work on his/her project, unaffected by all external influences and the need for results to be presented.
The LAM 360° Residency covers transportation within Mongolia, the stay in a ger in Murun Sum, full meals and one week accommodation in Ulaanbaatar.
Housing and Meals:
Residents are accommodated in traditional shared gers located in a rural mountains setting and nomadic family neighbours, about 5 km away of the little village Murun Sum and about 4 hours by car/bus from the capital Ulaanbaatar. It is situated in close neighborhood to a professionally looked-after ger camp, providing bathroom with shower, a kitchen, and a studio. A professional cook prepares full meals for the community of artists, and visiting Mongolian artists. The food is traditional Mongolian, vegetarian cuisine available on demand.
Location, Climate, and Transportation:
The Land Art Mongolia Residency is located in a spectacular rural setting in a small mountain range and diversified with steppe, rocks, sand dunes and a river close to the little village Murun / Khentii Aimag District, east of Ulaanbaatar and about 30km from Chinggis City. Daily temperatures in the spring/summer months (May - July) range between 14-25°C. The residency experience centers around its genuine off-grid atmosphere and invites to explore the area by walking or bike.
